Suspense Thriller
Story
A story based in New York City around the relationship of Kyle, a writer, and his waitress/painter girlfriend Magan as he struggles with his need for narcotics to fuel his inspiration and she tries to keep him clean. Kyle’s inability to write and affinity for drugs results in a night of binging which leads to an encounter with a chemist who invents new drugs for the scene. The Chemist decides that Kyle would make a good candidate to test his latest creation ‘The Bittersweet’. In an alley where they cross paths he sticks an eyedropper containing the drug into Kyle’s hand. The Chemist rapidly describes an incredible euphoric experience and then vanishes into the night. Kyle awakes in his bed to a barrage of verbal abuse from Magan and is as always forgiven by her. The Chemist goes on to pass ‘The Bittersweet’ to his regular addict test subjects and regresses into the voyeuristic phase of his experimentation. He proceeds to watch his subjects as they try the new drug. Each one, upon taking the drops in their eyes, goes into an extreme state of euphoric pleasure for a short period and then proceeds to pass out into a coma like state. He leaves, satisfied with their apparent blissful experience. Kyle meanwhile regresses back into his unmotivated state of uninspired lack of productivity. Though his love for Magan is strong, he feels unworthy of her and is afraid she will drift away from him, as he believes she was drawn to him by his artificially inspired creativity. The Bittersweet constantly taunts him with the mystery of the chemist and his description of the experience contained in the eyedropper. Meanwhile, what the chemist fails to observe is that once his test subjects awake from their deep sleep they experience an incredible low that results in a flight or fight response. Some become hyper paranoid and run through the streets scared of everyone and everything as their skin crawls. Others become more sinister. They take on the more extreme state of the fight response and begin to lash out at the people in their world. Two police officers are assigned to the case and they discover the link in a string of violent deaths leads back to an eyedropper filled with an unknown substance. The film becomes a race against time as they try to get to the bottom of this mystery and the characters involved are linked together in a sorted tale of love, immorality, addiction, and a sense of helplessness. With so many unexpected turns we are drawn into this tale and held till the bittersweet end…
Style
This film will be reminiscent of se7en with its dark and moody settings and characters contrasted by an ill-fated love story.
